Dr. Kajene Thasan Vethanayagam (Kaj Vetha) was born in Toronto, Canada and was raised in Athens, Georgia. She graduated from Athens Academy in 2010. She went to Georgia Institute of Technology, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 2014. Then went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 2018.
As an optometry student, Dr. Vetha was very involved in the National Optometric Student Association (NOSA), in which she served as president in 2015. She participated in a mission trip to Haiti in 2018, where she fulfilled her passion for community service. Upon graduation, she received the William Feinbloom Low Vision Award recognizing her outstanding achievements in the clinical care of low vision patients. She is currently a member of the American Optometric Association and Georgia Optometric Association.
Her career began at Thomas Eye Center as an associate optometrist in 2019. She became the dry eye director in 2020 when she started the dry eye clinic to better serve our patients. Dr. Vetha offers a full range of services including comprehensive adult and pediatric vision examinations, diagnosis and treatment of eye disease, pre- and post-operative surgical care for LASIK and cataract surgeries, and contact lens fitting for myopia control management.
Dr. Vetha lives in Athens with her husband Suhan. In her free time, Dr. Vetha loves to travel and spend time with family and friends.
